Backup Insight uses autonomic web services to identify and solve client problems quickly and accurately.

Introduction

Applied Autonomics uses an advanced set of software and hardware technologies to provide autonomic services.  The accuracy and speed of our services are due to an ability to measure and statistically control client business processes on a real time basis.  This data can then be used to make quick and accurate business and technical decisions.

We use this system to "bake in" quality management into everything that we do.

Explaining the Autonomic Services Framework

The heart of our technology is the Autonomic Services Framework.  The Framework consists of business data, work flows, syndication services, and security.

  • Connect:  Collect business data from anywhere
Our Java connector quickly and securely collects business data, highly encrypts it, and stores it in the data warehouse.  Text, XML, you name it, if it is bits and bytes, it can be collected and stored.
  • Understand: Use work flows to simplify and understand business data
Work flows permit accurate modeling of both business data (states) and the changes in that data (transitions). Much like building blocks, the unique design of the system allows complex and simple work flows and business data to be combined as needed.  Complex and simple processes and data become easy to use models with simple results.
  • Communicate: Publish the results for use
Syndication services allow these work flows to expose results in simple and easy to use methods.
  • Security: From "line 1"
We built this web service from the first line of code, using the latest technologies.  Aside from benefiting from years of others web experiences, we had the unique chance of investing and building in the best security practices.  The result is an "active", layered security model that leads the industry, ensuring client data is as secure, or more secure, with us, than within a client.

Real Examples

Our first solution based on the Autonomic Services Framework is our IBM Tivoli Storage Manager solution, part of our SinglePoint service.  As of this writing, we use internally over 100 different work flows in delivering our ITSM services.

  • A real example of how we save client's time:
A client called us to ask a question about tape availability, we discovered the problem down to the tape slot number, before the ITSM GUI opened on the clients desktop.  He had started the GUI when we answered the phone.
  • A real example of how we save client's money:
Using our statistical modeling, we measured a client's data growth vs. tape library capacity, we alerted the client three months in advance of the system running out of tape capacity.  The system ran out of tape capacity one week after the date we had identified.  There was three months to buy and negotiate the new library.
  • A real example of how we provide value:
Client's receive via e-mail a report of what was backed up, missed, orphaned, hogs, errors, warnings, and other issues at the close of each backup cycle.

Result: A client moved from sub 40% backup coverage to near 100% coverage in two weeks.  We have permission to share with you these results, just call the number below.  Even better, take advantage of our money back, no obligation 30-day trial -- so you can see for yourself at the end of your next backup cycle (it usually takes less than an hour to see your first set of reports) -- that's better than a demo -- you get some great info to get your job done.

By the way...

WE use this technology internally to model and manage our entire business: it is true, if you can measure it, you can control and improve it.  It gets fun after a while, since you wonder how others get along without knowing what you know...
